Tinnitus Treatment Methods

The majority of medical treatments for tinnitus are not really that great, and work for a fraction of the people that use them. Those that do gain some benefit often suffer side effects from their prescription.

medicine-bottleMany of the drugs prescribed are actually for other conditions, and the side effects of them has been known to help with ringing in the ears. So you aren’t actually getting a solution, just a stop gap until the next time someone suffers a side effect from a drug that results in a bit of tinnitus relief.

If the tinnitus is caused by age, or being subjected to excessive noise for a long period of time, then the treatments that the doctors give you are unlikely to have any effect anyway because the damage has been done to the structure of the ear.

This does not mean that there is no hope for those suffering from tinnitus. Far from it in fact. There is always hope that an absolute cure will be found, but until then people have learned to cope with tinnitus in a variety of ways. Now, all may not be suitable for everyone, but many provide suitable enough relief for most people. It seems to be very rare that a product or method (whatever it is), does not help at some stage, or to some degree. The most important thing that a tinnitus sufferer can learn is patience, and that to give something the chance of working, it must be used or practiced regularly for a period of time. There has yet to be a product of any description that works instantly.

Doctors or physicians are not very forthcoming when it comes to offering alternative remedies to tinnitus. They are obliged (in a medical sense) to offer what science tells them is the best form of treatment, but as we have already discussed, these forms of medication come with no guarantees and are usually treatments for other, completely unrelated ailments. Doctors are not failing their patients in their prescriptions, but they are not letting their patients have the full story either. There are alternative cures for tinnitus, sufferers just have to dig them out for themselves.

People who suffer from tinnitus invariably go out to try and find something they can use themselves. That is probably why you are reading this now, because in order to find something that might help reduce your buzzing, you have to do your homework. Whether the sufferer researches homeopathic treatments, relaxation techniques, alternative literature from other experts in hearing or any other form of alternative therapy, there will be something which will help a tinnitus sufferer in some way.

believeAlternative ways of treating tinnitus should be looked at as you giving something back to yourself. Non prescribed treatments can often give a sufferer that little extra belief that coping and dealing with tinnitus is possible. Because the person has usually found the treatment on their own, it gives them that extra confidence which can be knocked out of sufferers, to try something new, and to believe that there is a way of battling tinnitus and winning.

Yes, alternative tinnitus treatments may differ in effectiveness from person to person, and some methods can be costly, but almost everyone who suffers from tinnitus will at least try something that will have a positive effect on their condition.

What alternative therapy does, is give a tinnitus sufferer some relief from the stress that tinnitus can cause. For some people, just knowing there is a range of remedies that the doctors don’t always tell patients about (for whatever reason) can feel like a load lifting from their shoulders. They know that at some stage they can get round to trying all of these remedies, and they know that to some degree, they will help ease the annoying ringing they are feeling. It can be such a relief knowing that there are others who have been, or who currently are in the same situation as you.

Tinnitus Stress

One major cause of tinnitus, and why it gets worse over time (whether small time periods or years) is stress. High stress levels are directly related to how someone is affected by tinnitus

By simply (and tinnitus sufferers know nothing is simple) learning some stress relief techniques, some deep breathing exercises and such like, it is possible to actually feel the ringing getting quieter.

Reducing stress levels can be your first step to reducing your tinnitus suffering.

Depression

Tinnitus can be the start of tough times in a persons private, social and work life. Generally, tinnitus is not constant, it comes and goes, but the person suffering does not know when those frustrating times will be.

That might mean that it strikes just as you close your eyes to go to sleep.

You might start to hear the ringing at lunch with a friend.

Maybe you have an early morning meeting with colleagues when the buzzing starts.

It could be none of these times, maybe some days the effects of tinnitus come every few hours and stay with you for long periods. Maybe it comes and goes more frequently for shorter periods of time.

It is hard to explain to a friend, or a boss, or to your family just what the issue is. How can they understand that you hear ‘ringing’ in your ears? So where does that leave you – the person that is suffering the effects of tinnitus?

Well, it can lead to a downward spiral. People suffering from tinnitus will often find themselves taking time off from work, avoiding meeting up with friends, and possibly becoming irritable around their family. Because tinnitus is such a solitary condition, the initial reaction to back away from everything is generally a person’s first response.

This usually stops, or at least begins to slow down when people discover just exactly what is causing the uncomfortable feelings in their head. Just knowing about tinnitus, and that it can be treated, and people can lead ‘normal’ lives, without living in fear of the next attack can make a complete difference to how they handle the ringing, and how they deal with life, and the people around them.
